Plainfield Township man accused of 50 break-ins

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- New developments have emerged in the case of the man accused of burglarizing 35 or more businesses during a four-month crime spree throughout West Michigan.

32-year-old Erik Maximillian Hatzinger was formally charged Friday in three of those incidents and it is not Hatzingerr's first time in trouble with the law.

The Plainfield Township man was already out on bond for a September break in at El Burrito on the East Beltline. He also had two prior B&E convictions from 2005 and 2008.

Hatzinger was formally charged in 59th District Court for allegedly breaking into a Belle Tire at 2950 28th Street early Thursday morning.

Man arrested for more than 35 Kent County burglaries

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - The only reason nothing was taken from the Crushed Grape wine store is because the alarm went off.

"He jimmied open that door it took him longer to open the door than he was in the building," said store owner Gary Grier.

Grier says several businesses were targeted near Knapp's Corner in Grand Rapids Township.

"He's looking for an easy target or what he perceived as an easy target in his mind to get in to get out quickly, obtain either cash or something he can redeem for cash to support his drug habit," said Lt. Kevin Kelley of the Kent County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect was caught early Thursday morning in Grandville while trying to break into Belle Tire on 28th St. SW.

"When [Grandville Police] responded, they were able to apprehend a 32-year-old Plainfield Township man on the property and place him under arrest," said Lt. Kelley.

Nights of Fear 2010

The Nights Of Fear is in a old warehouse but don’t let that deter you! It has trained security to make you feel safe not only outside but inside also. There is a concession stand and much more! They have 3 haunted houses inside (Blood Manor, Rusty’s Nightmare & Black-out).

The setup and staff are not only friendly but also very professional. Blood Manor is considered to be scariest in our opinion, Rusty’s is great for Humor and excitement, The Black-Out is overall the best if you can stand the feeling of being basically blind , there is many effects and much more!  They also have a simulator where you can get buried alive, a photo opportunity and much more! This is your best scare per buck so far in West Michigan! Click Here to read more

Men charged with robbing Medawar Jewelers in court

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - A danger to the community, that's what a district judge calls three men charged with robbing Medawar Jewelers.

Wednesday the judge refused to reduce bond for 17-year old Tyrone Harbin, 18-year old Renard Mitchell and 21-year old Jammie Brown.

They're all charged with three felony counts. The judge says he set bond at $750,000 because of the gun, mace, and duct tape used during the alleged crime.

The men waived their preliminary hearing in hopes of negotiating in circuit court. Some of the suspects are still in high school and have a criminal record.

The three men charged with the crime are from the Detroit area with no Grand Rapids ties.
