ROCKFORD, Mich.— The face of a Special Olympics Michigan athlete from Rockford is now gracing grocery store shelves.

SpartanNash has selected David Paquette to be featured on boxes of Spartan brand honey and oat crunch with almonds cereal this month.  Paquette was named the 2013 SpartanNash Healthy Athlete of the Year last may during the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics State Summer Games.  He has been involved with Special Olympics Michigan for 15 years.  He has lost 55 pounds because of his dedication to living healthy, sparked by is participation in SOMI.

Paquette will visit the Cascade D&W Fresh Market to sign autographs this Friday, May 16 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.  He will also appear at the Northland Drive Family Fare on Saturday, May 17 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

These in-store visits coincide with SpartanNash’s medallion sales campaign for Special Olympics Michigan athletes, which runs until May 17. For $1, shoppers can purchase a paper medallion to show their support for Special Olympics Michigan. Each medallion also contains over $3 worth of money-saving coupons for Spartan brand products.

Proceeds from the medallion sales support the Special Olympics Michigan athlete programs and the State Summer Games.
