Safe way to get rid of unwanted medication

Safe way to get rid of unwanted medication

What’s in your medicine cabinet?  Do you have bottles of old medication?  Flushing the pills down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.  There is another way to get rid of unwanted prescription drugs in Kent County.

On October 28, 2011, from  8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to Kent County Sheriff’s Office at 701 Ball Ave NE.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This effort is part of the Nationwide Prescription Drug "Take-Back” Day.

Hot days.... drink more water

The warm days have finally arrived. We will be spending more time outside working in the yard, washing the car and exercising. As we do remember to keep yourself hydrated, which means drink more water. the Institute of Health recommends 3.7 liters a day on average. Obviously if you are doing more outside, take in more water. Heat exhaustion can become a life threatening event, and can be easily avoided. Now we all don't like drinking water, "no taste" is the normal excuse. There are several good additives to add flavor to your water. Crystal light makes a good additive as well as the new MIO (which can be found at Meijer).

These are all good additives and relatively inexpensive. definitely cheaper then a trip to the Emergency room. So enjoy the summer and all the activities, but be safe.
