NVPS - Beyond a Shared Sacrifice

NVPS - Beyond a Shared Sacrifice

By: Mike Paskewicz, Superintendent, Northview Public Schools

This morning Governor Synder's budget proposal was released and the impact on public education is dramatic.  The Governor is calling for an approximate 4% reduction to the K-12 budget.  This translates to $470 less per student.  The impact on Northview would be $1,621,970 less in our budget for the 2011/12 school year. This figure does not include the expected increases in the amount we must pay for increases in retirement costs and health care increases.  These additions would bring the reduction closer to $1,000 per pupil or approximately $3.4 million.

NVPS Community Bond Proposal Meeting

From: http://nvps.net/

Is there a need to bond for improvements to our technology and facilities/sites? We talked about it! The first of three community meetings to collect information regarding the "needs" in the areas of technology and facilities from the parent/community member perspective was on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at NHS. Thanks to everyone who joined us!  The next meeting is on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at Highlands Middle School cafeteria.

A third meeting is scheduled for April 19. Since the process builds upon the information gathered at each meeting, you should try to attend all three meetings. Minutes of the meetings will also be posted here on our web site at www.nvps.net.

NVPS - Superintendent’s Comments

From: http://nvps.net

“We believe people working together toward common goals can accomplish anything.”

Over the past year there have been many examples of this belief in action thanks to the partnership between staff, families, students, and community members. Sometimes it appeared in a school between an adult and a student because of a district-wide mentor program started by a concerned adult. Other times it was a community-wide event like Black Out Pediatric Cancer that involved hundreds of people thanks to a concerned parent/ community member. This belief came to life when you as a community approved the renewal of the building and site millage in May 2010.
