PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.--  A restaurant rebuilt after a destructive fire will reopen to hungry customers Thursday, August 15.

Qdoba Mexican Grill, located at 5150 Northland Drive NE, was destroyed by fire January 23.   A passerby spotted heavy smoke coming from the building just before 2 a.m. that day.  The cold temperatures hindered fire crews, even causing a fire engine to break down.

Qdoba hired new team members ahead of the restaurant’s reopening.

Plainfield Township considering taking control of plumbing inspections

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.--  Soon, plumbing inspections in Plainfield Township may no longer be conducted by the State of Michigan.

Township Supervisor Jay Spencer says on Monday, the Township Board took the first step toward regaining control of its plumbing inspections.   Spencer says the Board then plans to contract out township plumbing services to Cascade.  He says the switch should save the Township some money while streamlining the inspection process.

If all goes well, the change would likely take effect October 1.

Plainfield Township Board rejects liquor license request

Plainfield Township Board rejects liquor license request

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Plainfield Township will hang onto its last free liquor license for now.

In a 3-4 decision Monday, the Township Board narrowly voted down awarding the license to BC Pizza owner Tony Griffin.  Griffin told board members he believes his lack of a liquor license is hurting his business, since his competitors all have liquor licenses.  During his presentation Monday night, Griffin also said he believes having a license to sell liquor would lead to 6-12 more jobs at BC Pizza.

Although Township Supervisor Jay Spencer voted in favor of giving Griffin the license, he says the majority voted against it because they wanted to use it as a tool to lure a future unnamed restaurant that would have a bigger economic impact on the township.
