Chandler Woods Charter Academy students serenade seniors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— Students of  Chandler Woods Charter Academy  delivered holiday cheer to seniors on Tuesday.

Middle school band members hopped on a bus bound for Vista Springs Northview Tuesday afternoon.  Once they arrived, they serenaded residents with holiday carols.  The trip is an annual tradition for Chandler Woods students.

Chandler Woods Charter Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grades.

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, MIch.-- A band concert cancelled last week during a winter snow storm will take place Wednesday night.

According to the Northview Public Schools website, the Crossroads band concert has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at The Max PAC.

Book store collects donations for Northview Public Schools

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Don’t forget to add Northview Public Schools to your Christmas list this year.

Now through December 31, the Barnes & Noble store in Woodland Mall is accepting book donations for the district.  Customers can donate at the checkout counter.  The coveted books will be added to the district’s collection to promote student reading. 

All of the donations will be delivered to schools across the district in January 2014.

One day left for Northview High School art display

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Time is running out to see the talents of Northview High School students on display at the Kent ISD building.

Artwork created by students in the high school’s advanced art and fashion design classes is on display in the building’s lobby now through December 12.  The exhibit features pencil and ink drawings and pastel pieces created by sophomores, juniors and seniors.

“It’s about getting my students to realize that their art can make a difference and can be a great way to get others to understand things that are important to them or society,” says instructor Tricia Erickson.

The Northview High School art display is part of a rotating series of exhibits from schools within the Kent ISD. Artwork from the students of Byron Center Christian Schools will go on display in January.

The Kent ISD building is located at 2930 Knapp NE in Grand Rapids Township.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.-- It is relay season!  Are you ready to relay? 

The 2014 Relay For Life of Comstock Park Committee is excited to begin the planning process for our May 16, 2014 event.  Teams re now forming and registration has started.

The theme for 2014 is Superheroes, which should be tons of fun to decorate and create entertaining games around.  Relay For Life of Comstock Park 2014 is all about fun while finishing the fight against cancer!  Whether you have an interest in being the captain of your team, a team member, a committee member or a volunteer, we invite you to join in the fun.

Renovations to Northview High School continue

NORTHVIEW, Mich.—Two important spaces for Northview’s student athletes are starting to take shape.

According to BarnesWolgast, the athletic lobby and fitness center enclosure is complete.  The contractor says crews are finishing up work on steel stud framing, and beginning to paint the block work and install plumbing and electrical systems.

The framework for the school’s natatorium and pool is also starting.  Crews have finished up the steel trusses and braces for the roof and are now installing the acoustical roof decking.  The actual roofing is expected to start next week.

Contractors plan to install the pool in late January 2014. The entire natatorium and pool is expected to be complete in October 2014.

Balletmore promises budget-friendly 'Nutcracker' for Dec. 8

NORTHVIEW, Mich.—  This Sunday, Dec. 8, Balletmore Dance Studio will present its own version of “The Nutcracker”, which the company says is just right for antsy children and tight budgets.

Balletmore’s version is 60 minutes long and features local students and pre-professional artists.  Children can also meet performers after the ballet and enter to win a full scholarship for free training at Balletmore.

Balletmore is offering two performances at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.  The production will take place at the Northview High School Max Colley Junior Performing Arts Center, located at 4451 Hunsberger NE.
